Businesses grow and change, and often the name changes with it. Now you can change your Facebook page’s name and URL as you grow or acquire older businesses.

Limits to Changing Your Facebook Page Name

For many years it was impossible to change your Facebook name. They have loosened that up slightly. Today if you have more than 200 likes, you can change your Facebook page name once.

How to Change Your Facebook Page Name

Step 1 – About

Get started by clicking the “About” option under your name.

Step 2 – Page info and name edit

Make sure Page Info is clicked on the left side. Then find Name. When you roll over it you will see a pencil icon on the right. Click that to edit your name.

Step 3 – Change or Request Change

If your page has fewer than 200 likes, you can immediately change your name. If you have more than 200 likes, you have to request a change. Either enter your new name and click save (if you can). Otherwise, click on Request Change.

Step 4 – Update page details and name

Before changing your name, you need to clarify what the page represents. Facebook will only let you change your name once, so make sure you choose a name that can last! Enter it in the “Desired Page name” section.

Step 5 – Give Facebook your first born (ok, actually just an official document)

Here’s where it gets a little tricky. Facebook wants to confirm that this is actually your business’ name. To do this, you need to upload a document with your business’ name on it. They recommend a utility or phone bill, but we have been able to get this approved with almost any “official-looking” document such as bills or official mail.

To make it easy, just take a photo with your phone and upload the photo.

Step 6 – Wait

Facebook has been quick in our experience when you have an acceptable document. Within a few days, your page name will most likely update. They say it could take up to 14 days, so just check back to see if the change is successful.
