Audacious Goals in Guernsey
This week we ask: what makes a community great? To answer that question, we travel across the ocean to the tiny island of Guernsey, population 65,000, where Marc Winn and cadre of world changers are aiming for nothing short of societal reinvention with the Dandelion Project.
Winn notes in the podcast that small changes are actually more difficult than having an audacious goal. In Guernsey they’ve declared that they want to make the island the best community in the world by 2020. This huge goal has inspired projects ranging from building public transportation and local events to an entirely new currency that redistributes wealth. As you’ll learn, Marc brings passion and vision to his community and teaches us the power of doing the same.
Social Communities from Kenya to South Dakota
Passion is a huge component to a successful community. As Liz Hannum, a community developer in Aberdeen, notes in today’s episode, a community must also be social. Her experience working in international development taught her that community members talking about what needs to be done is the first step to making it happen. In addition to promoting collaboration, Hannum shares methods to discover resources in a community and implement change in our communities. Learn what you can do to build the community you want to live in in today’s episode.
